Nell’ottobre 2022, durante una sessione di registrazione, un improvviso shock acustico – causato da un errore tecnico durante il cambio delle cuffie – ha fatto perdere i sensi a Piero Pelù, provocandogli un danno permanente al nervo acustico. Da allora, Piero ha dovuto affrontare questa condizione, soprattutto dal punto di vista psicologico. L’incidente ha comportato la cancellazione di un tour già in programma, oltre al rischio di dover rinviare tutte le attività artistiche legate agli eventi musicali dal vivo di Pelù. Così per Piero il “rumore dentro” è diventato un’occasione per fermarsi, ritrovarsi, ricostruirsi, rigenerarsi e scrivere un nuovo album dedicato a Deserts inside attraverso una full immersion nel suo mondo interiore: famiglia, libertà, amici (compresi i Litfiba), viaggi e naturalmente musica sono gli elementi con cui una delle figure più importanti del panorama rock italiano è riuscito a ricostruirsi e a ritrovare la propria strada. Il film è inoltre arricchito da una sorprendente selezione di materiale tratto dal vasto archivio cinematografico e video messo insieme da Piero dall’inizio del suo percorso musicale fino ai giorni d’oggi. Ispirato al percorso spirituale intrapreso da Pelù durante l’annuale pellegrinaggio nomade a Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, in Camargue, in onore di Santa Sara la Nera, patrona dei viaggiatori – il cui nome è tatuato su entrambi gli avambracci dell’artista – “NOISE INSIDE. DON’T CALL ME A ROCK STAR” diventa un road movie e una riflessione su oltre quarant’anni di vita “On the road”, come figura intellettualmente libera, libertaria e coraggiosa nel panorama artistico e musicale italiano. Con una grave depressione che lo accompagna sin dall’incidente, Pelù ha trovato la strada per rinascere nella musica, sua musa di sempre. “NOISE INSIDE. DON’T CALL ME A ROCK STAR” non è solo un percorso di scoperta di sé, ma un viaggio sorprendente e senza confini di un artista dallo spirito libero che, nel corso della sua carriera, non ha mai fatto scelte dettate dall’opportunismo. Piero, cantautore rock, performer, artista, padre, nonno e viaggiatore, riesce a fondere tutti questi ruoli in una sorprendente armonia.

Nel film compaiono anche gli amici e i collaboratori di Pelù, come la sua famiglia, i membri della band Litfiba e gli amici che vede ogni giorno, in vesti inaspettate.

In October 2022, during a recording session, a sudden acoustic shock – due to a technical error when changing  headphones – knocked Piero Pelù unconscious, leaving him with permanent damage to his acoustic nerve.  Piero  has been struggling with this condition, psychologically, ever since. The accident resulted in having to cancel a  tour that had already been scheduled, as well as the risk of having to postpone all  the artistic activities to do with  Pelu’s live music events. So for Piero the “noise inside” became an opportunity to  stop, find himself, rebuild,  regenerate and write a new album dedicated to Deserts inside through a full immersion into his inner world:   family, freedom, friends (including Litfiba), travelling and naturally  music are the elements with which one of the most  important figures on the Italian rock scene was able to rebuild and find his way again. The film is also enhanced by an  astonishing selection of material taken from the extensive film and video archive put together by Piero from the start of  his  musical  journey  to  the  present  day.  Marked  by  the  spiritual  journey  undertaken  by  Pelù  on  the  annual  gypsy  pilgrimage to Saintes-Maries-de- la-Mer, in Camargue, in honour of Saint Sarah the Black, patron saint of travelers  – whose name is tattooed on both the artist’s forearms – “NOISE INSIDE. DON’T CALL ME A ROCK STAR” becomes a  road  movie  as  well  as  a  reflection  on  over  forty  years  living  “Off  the  road”,  as  an  intellectually  free,  libertarian, courageous figure on the Italian artistic, music scene. Living with severe depression ever since the accident, Pelù  found the road to rebirth in music – his lifelong muse. “NOISE INSIDE. DON’T CALL ME A ROCK STAR” is not just  a road to self-discovery, but a surprising, boundless journey by an artist who is a free spirit and who, throughout  his career, has never made choices out of opportunism. Piero the rock singer-songwriter,  performer, artist, father,  grandfather and traveler, manages to bring all these roles together in surprizing harmony.

The film also features Pelù’s friends and collaborators, such as his family, Litfiba band members, and the friends  he sees every day, in unexpected guises.
